Radiesse®

Radiesse® was originally developed and released in the United States in 2000. Since then it has been introduced in all areas of the world and today we're pleased to be able to offer you a Radiesse® treatment at our practice. This particular dermal filler has a range of uses, from decreasing the appearance of wrinkles, filling in deep-set lines, volumizing facial hollows and correcting depleted soft tissue stores perhaps due to acne scarring or trauma to the skin.

Radiesse® is mainly composed of calcium hydroxylapatite. It's a handful to say, but all you really need to know is that it is a material present naturally in human bones, and it has been used in medical science for years in coating tooth and bone implants. This substance is readily accepted by the body and it binds with the skin to form a long lasting framework beneath upper epidermis (top layer of skin). This means that while the great looking volume effect is achieved, the skin doesn't react badly to the injected substance, but instead accepts it as safe, and part of its own. Over time, Radiesse® is absorbed into the body naturally, with no side effects other than the ones that make skin appear younger, smoother and plumper.

The actual procedure is straightforward, with a light local anesthetic or antiseptic applied, followed by the application of the Radiesse® injection to the sub-cutis and dermis layers of the skin. You can expect to have swelling and possibly bruising for up to three days, but the best thing about this particular product is that the effects can last up to two years. Obviously this is a huge advantage over some other dermal fillers which usually last from six to nine months.

The benefits that you can expect from a Radiesse® treatment are:

  • biocompatibility (Radiesse® is accepted by your skin and works with it to produce the results you want)
  • 100% non-toxic
  • long-lasting results of up to two years
  • plumper, younger looking skin
  • a natural improvement to your skin, reducing wrinkles, lines and/or scarring
