A malar fat pad triangle is based at the nasolabial fold. People that are youthful in appearance typically have a Malar for a pad that is well-positioned above the zygomatic bone. They also possess a malar fat pad that covers the orbital piece of the orbicularis oculi.
As our age advances, the malar fat pad begins to slide down and slightly forward over our SMAS (Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System). The fat pad will bowl each against our fixed nasolabial crease and create the look of deepening. As the corner of our mouth begins to droop, our face begins to present a downward orientation. The malar fat pad slides inferiorly as well as medially over our SMAS. By repositioning our malar fat pad vertically, we are able to restore a youthful appearance to our face.
